The deadline for the homebuyer tax credit incentive is April 30, 2010 so homebuyers have a little over a month still to take advantage of this. Both new and move-up buyers can benefit from the credit. First-time homebuyers can get up to $8,000 and qualifying existing homeowners who buy a new primary residence or have one built can recieve up to $6,500. The maximum home purchase price is $800,000. The National Association of Realtors says that as many as 400,000 resale transactions were completed specifically because of the credit and put a good dent in the housing inventory. Home sales also add property and sales tax revenues to the coffers of local governments as reduced inventory helps boost prices and home values. |
